Food is Life and Waste is Death, so how to avoid Waste and promote Life also in Paris 2024 Olympics?
For Jesus, breaking bread and sharing a meal was at the heart of His teachings.
At the Last Supper, the first Mass, He instituted the Eucharist, inviting us to continue this sacred act of communion and sharing for over two thousand years. "Do this in memory of me" (Luke 22:19/ 1 Corinthians 11:24) reminds us of the profound importance of giving and receiving, of sharing in both spiritual and material abundance of Life.
As Chiara Lubich taught me, the parable of the sower, where the seed that falls on good soil yields a hundredfold harvest (Matthew 13:8, Mark 4:8, Luke 8:8), teaches us about the transformative power of living according to the Gospel, to have access to the Holy Spirit that renews everything. This promise extends beyond spiritual growth to include all aspects of our lives, including our efforts for sustainability.
From my first days aware of food waste at the COP15 climate conference in Copenhagen 2009 to my ongoing quest for climate solutions, I have seen how living according to the Gospel brings forth God's abundant blessings.
The Too Good To Go app, which I've been using since 2019, is a testament to this divine providence. Through it, I've rescued 166 orders of surplus food, saved over €230, and experienced the joy of sharing these blessings with my neighbors, and even homeless in need of food.
God provides the hundredfold when we love and share, including food with our neighbors. Using Too Good To Go during the Paris 2024 Olympics has allowed me to witness firsthand the transformative power of giving and the abundance that follows.
